Tutorial: Knitted Rag Bath Mat

It’s so awesome. I want one.

I require really really really big knitting needles!

Since I took the time to make a sloppy thumbnail mosaic in Paint I might as well post it here and make sure that I’m inflicting it on as many people as possible, so behold! A year in knitting! 

My second year as a knitter.  …I seem to have gone a little crazy for hats. 

Some of the things that I made were

-a Calcifer hat

-two Sophie Hatter hats—one red, for Young Sophie, and one grey, for Old Sophie

-a Lost Boy hat

-a Blueberry Girl hat

-a Pirate Lady hat and Pirate Lady mitts

-an Acorn pouch (to be worn at Scarborough Faire)

My new project bag and DPN organizer from Slipped Stitch Studio

Of course I had to have them, especially when I realized that these fabrics were discontinued.  What do you do in your free time?  Oh, I knit stuff…and sail the high seas causing destruction and mayhem and being generally awesome!

The pattern is the Coquille shawl from Knitty—I’m thinking of starting it for my travel knit to Atlanta, but mine would be yellow…except that now I want a pearly grey one.

There are a lot of things that I love about knitting (pretty much everything, in fact) and one of them is that no matter how trendy knitting gets, or how many celebrities take it up, the knitting community at large is fabulously geeky.  We’ve filled the world with cunning hats and epic fourteen foot scarves, and that’s the tip of the iceberg.

And then there are geeky handspun yarns.  A whole new world of awesome.  And when it’s a yarn inspired by a fairy tale, my heart gives a special sort of flutter.  This one is A Beast’s Roses, a merino/silk handspun by gossamersong on Etsy, and I want it.
